Django Girls RDU is a free one-day workshop for women to learn how to code. Caktus Group, a leading Django web development firm, opened this chapter of Django Girls to increase the number of women in tech. The workshop combines hands-on training, experienced coaches, and a warm, friendly environment to build your first Django site.
Upcoming Events
If you identify as a woman and have a laptop - you can apply! You don’t need to know anything technical - workshops are for people who are new to programming.
As a workshop attendee you will:
We bring the latest cyber tools and technologies to bear on pressing problems. We work with scientists who study critical issues from the genetic causes of cancer to the impacts of climate change. We form research teams that involve faculty members at universities across North Carolina and the U.S. and that are positioned to bring major research projects to North Carolina.
Do I need to know anything about websites or programming?
Nope. Workshops are for beginners so you don't need any background. If you have a little bit of technical knowledge (i.e. you know what HTML or CSS are) you still can apply.
I do not live near Durham, can I still attend?
Yes, please do apply. You will responsible for finding housing for yourself.
Should I bring my own laptop?
Yes. Please bring your own laptop. We don't have loaners to share.
Do I need to have something installed on my laptop?
It would be helpful to have Django installed before the workshop, but we wouldn't expect you to install anything on your own. We will make sure that one of our coaches helps you before the workshop. But if you're eager to start, you can read the Django Girls tutorial on installation and code editors.
Who is hosting this event?
Caktus Group founded the RDU chapter of Django Girls. We will have coaches from Caktus, so you will have a chance to learn more about the industry.
Is there any financial aid?
The workshop is free. We're actively seeking financial aid sponsors to help those who need assistance to attend. Please indicate if you require assistance in your application and we'll do our best.
We couldn't be here without the support from amazing people and organizations who donated money, knowledge and time to help us make this a reality. If you want to contribute and support our goal, please get in touch: durham@djangogirls.org
