Django Girls Workshop

If you’ve never coded before and want to learn how to make websites, we have good news for you: we are holding a one-day workshop for beginners!

It will take place on 5th, March, 2017 at Elastic in Mountain View.

We believe the IT industry will greatly benefit from bringing more women into technology. We want to give you an opportunity to learn how to program and become one of us – women programmers! Workshops are free of charge and we want you here! Join us! 🎉

You can apply for the workshop only until February 19.

Apply for the workshop!

Programming is a fun and valuable skill, but starting to code can be intimidating. This one-day workshop is a fun, friendly, and informative first step in learning how to program. If you have a wifi-enabled laptop and some curiosity, you can apply for our event! You don't need to know any technical stuff – the workshop is for people who are new to programming.

As a workshop attendee you will:

  • Learn how to create a website in a one-day Django workshop — we’ll have delicious, nutritious meals provided
  • Hear from guest speakers about their journey with programming
If you’re excited to go on this adventure with us, make sure to fill out the application form below!

Applications now closed

Applications will be closed on the 19th of February. You'll be informed about acceptance during the last week of February.

Do I need to know anything about websites or programming?

No! The workshop is for beginners. You don’t need to know anything before attending the workshop. We want to encourage you to apply if you’re brand-new to programming, or if you have a bit of coding experience (like HTML or CSS). If you have a lot of experience, consider being a coach!

Do I need to have anything installed on my laptop before the workshop?

It would be helpful to have Django installed before the workshop, but we don't expect you to install anything on your own. Our coaches will be available to help you out with this task before the event via video conference.

I don't live in the Mountain View, can I attend?

Yes! We'd love to have you. If you're coming from San Francisco, we may be able to help with travel costs. If you have any questions about accommodations email us at sf@djangogirls.org

Should I bring my own laptop?

Yes. Ideally, you will be able to take home all of the code you'll write during the workshop and can continue experimenting with it.

How much does the workshop cost?

Nothing! The workshop is totally free.

Will there be food?

Yes. We believe people learn better when their stomachs are not rumbling, and we really do want you to learn!

What is the format of the workshop? What if I have trouble keeping up?

During the workshop, you will work in small groups of 3 women each. Each group works with a dedicated coach. The coaches are experienced software developers, and excited to volunteer their time, knowledge, and energy for Django Girls.

I am not a woman. Can I apply for this workshop?

Yes! You can apply. Preference will be given to women applicants in accordance with the goals of the organization, and we appreciate your drive to learn. There will be seats for men too.

In which language will the workshop be held?

The main language of the workshop will be English. If you have another preference contact us at sf@djangogirls.org
