Django Girls

Would you like to learn how to build websites, but don’t know where to start? We’re hosting as one of the Social Media Week Lagos official events, a free one-day workshop to teach female internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Lagos how to build websites from scratch.

This workshop is aimed at total beginners. You don't need to know anything about programming to participate. You just need to bring your willingness to learn and some curiousity :)

The workshop has been curated mainly for female IDPs in Lagos but we have a few slots that are open to the general public. You just need to register early and come with your computer to the workshop.

The workshop which is free to attend will take place on the 28th of February from 8am to 4pm at Co-Creation Hub | 6th Floor, 294 Herbert Macaulay Way, Yaba, Lagos,

We believe that the IT industry will greatly benefit from bringing more women into technology. We want to give you an opportunity to learn how to program and become one of us - Women Developers!

    Register

Do I need to know anything about websites or programming?

No! Workshops are for beginners. You don’t need to know anything about it. However, if you have a little bit of technical knowledge (i.e. you know what HTML or CSS are) you still can apply!

I don't live in Lagos, can I attend?

For this third workshop in Lagos, the spaces available to the general public are already minimal. The available slots would therefore be very competitive. This does not mean you should not register though. If you are super interested in learning and can find your way down to Lagos, register and we will do the rest. We howver will like you to shoot us an email stating your interest!

Should I bring my own laptop?

Yes. We have no hardware except for those that will be provided for the IDPs, so we expect you to bring your computer with you. It is also important for us that you will take home everything you’ll write and create during workshops.

Do I need to have something installed on my laptop?

It would be helpful to have Django installed before the workshop, but we wouldn't expect you to install anything on your own.We will make sure that one of our coaches will help you out with this task.

What is the format of the workshop? What if I have trouble keeping up?

You will work in a small group of just 3 attendees. A coach will be assigned to each group, and your coach will work closely with you throughout the day to help with any problems that you may have. You will work at your own pace, assisted by your coach, so you don't need to worry about keeping up with the entire workshop.

Is food provided?

Yes. Thanks to our sponsors, snacks and lunch will be served during the workshop. We are not in the habit of making people learn on empty bellies ;)

Am I too young/old to apply?

No! We have no upper or lower age limit for the workshop. We feel that women of any age can be highly motivated to learn and succeed in this field. . All applications will be considered according to criteria similar to those described here

Be a Coach or Mentor!

We have all the coaches and mentors we need now! A big thank you to all those who volunteered!
