What is Django Girls?

If you are a woman and you want to learn how to make websites, we have good news for you! We are holding a one-day workshop for beginners!

Join us San Diego, CA on July 30, 2016 to get a taste of web development with Python and Django.

We believe that IT industry will greatly benefit from bringing more women into technology. We want to give you an opportunity to learn how to program and become one of us—female programmers!

Workshops are free of charge and we want you here! Join us! 🎉

Hooray for everyone who applied!

Our applications for this workshop closed on June 24th, and we're so happy that so many people applied! Did you miss this round? Catch up with PyLadies San Diego to get support in your learning journey from awesome San Diego folks.

Django Girls is Super Awesome!

San Diego Django Girls is a part of bigger initiative: Django Girls. It is a non-profit organization and events are organized by volunteers all over the world.

To see the source for the program find us on github: github.com/DjangoGirls.

If you want to bring Django Girls to your city, drop us a line: hello@djangogirls.org.

Do I need to know anything about websites or programming?

Nope! Workshops are meant for beginners; no prior knowledge needed. Even if you're not a total newbie (i.e. you know what HTML or CSS are) you still can apply!

Should I bring my own laptop?

Yes. We don't have any hardware, so we expect you to bring your computer with you. It is also important for us that you take home everything that you write and create during workshops.

Do I need to have something installed on my laptop?

It would be helpful to have Django installed before the workshop, but we don't expect you to install anything on your own. We will make sure that one of our coaches will help you out with this task.

Is food provided?

Yes! Thanks to our sponsors, a light breakfast, tasty snacks, and a healthy lunch will be served.

I need an accommodation not listed here.

Please email us at sandiego@djangogirls.org so we can work out a plan with you!

Is the venue accessible?

Yep! The facility is within ADA standards. Hooray!

Why are you doing this?

We want to give women a safe space to learn, ask questions, make new friends, and feel supported as they learn something new.

Am I too young/old to apply?

No! We have no upper or lower age limit for the workshop, though minors need to be accompanied by an adult. We feel that women of any age can be highly motivated to learn and succeed in this field. All applications will be considered according to criteria similar to those described here.

What is the format of the workshop? What if I have trouble keeping up?

You will work in a small group of just 3 attendees. A coach will be assigned to each group, and your coach will work closely with you throughout the day to help with any problems that you may have. You will work at your own pace, assisted by your coach, so you don't need to worry about keeping up with the entire workshop.
