Django Girls

If you are a woman and want to learn how to make websites, we have good news for you: we are holding a 1.5 day workshop for beginners!

During one of the biggest Django conferences in the world, which gathers loads of talented programmers from all over the world - DjangoCon US 2016 - we are holding a workshop. It will take place on July 20th and 21st at Huntsman Hall, The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

This workshop is aimed at total beginners. You don't need to know anything about programming to participate. You just need to bring your own wifi-enabled laptop evening of Wednesday the 20th and all day Thursday the 21st, and have a sufficient understanding of English to follow our English-language tutorial.

You'll work through a tutorial in small groups of three with a coach, so you'll be able to learn at your own pace.

We are trans-inclusive and encourage applications from all women and non-binary people.

The workshop is free of charge! Don't wait too long: you can apply for the workshop until June 25th 2016!

Do I need to know anything about websites or programming?

No! Workshops are for beginners. However, if you have a little bit of technical knowledge (i.e. you know what HTML or CSS are) you still can apply!

I am not living in Philadelphia, can I attend?

Of course! At this time we are not able to offer travel scholarships, however.

Should I bring my own laptop?

Yes, we expect you to bring your wifi-enabled laptop with you. It is important for us that you be able to take home everything you’ll write and create during workshops.

Do I need to have something installed on my laptop?

We'll help you install what you need! Don't worry, all the software you'll use is free.

Is DjangoCon US a good conference for a total beginner?

Even though you are new to programming, conferences are a good place to meet many interesting people in the industry and find inspiration.

Is food provided?

Yes! Thanks to DjangoCon US, breakfast, snacks, and lunch will be served during the workshop. Dinner will be available at the installation party thanks to Wharton Computing.
