Django Girls

If you are a woman and you want to learn how to make websites, we have good news for you! We are holding a one-day workshop for beginners!

It will take place on the 12th of December at 4224 Wai'alae Ave #2 Honolulu, Hawaii, during Computer Science Week, an annual program dedicated to inspiring K-12 students to take interest in computer science.

We believe that the IT industry will greatly benefit from bringing more women into technology. We want to give you an opportunity to learn how to program and become one of us female programmers!

Workshops are free of charge and if you can’t afford to come to Honolulu, but you are very motivated to learn and then share your knowledge with others, we have some funds to help you out with your travel costs and accommodation. Don’t wait too long you can apply now until the 22nd of November!

Apply Now! Why Wait?

If you are a woman, know English and have a laptop - you can register! You don’t need to know any technical stuff - workshops are for people who are new to programming.

As a workshop attendee you will:

  • Attend a one-day Django workshop (with the installfest the night before) during which you will create your first website
  • Be fed by us - during workshops food will be provided. Have a tasty dessert provided by CakeWorks!

We have space only for 40 people, so make sure to fill the form very carefully!

Registration is now closed!

Application process closed on November 22nd. You will be informed about or your application by November 25th (or sooner)!

Do I need to know anything about websites or programming?

No! Workshops are for beginners. You don’t need to know anything about it. However, if you have a little bit of technical knowledge (i.e. you know what HTML or CSS are) you still can apply!

I am not living in Hawaii, can I attend?

Of course! Workshops will be in English, so if you have no troubles with speaking and understanding English you should apply. If you need financial aid to get to Honolulu or you need assistance with booking flights or hotel in Honolulu just let us know. We are willing to help you!

Should I bring my own laptop?

Yes. We have limited computers, so we expect you to bring your own computer with you. It is also important for us because you will take home everything you write and create during workshops.

Do I need to have something installed on my laptop?

Well, yes but we can help. It would be amazing if you were able to install Django before the workshop, but we dont expect you to install anything on your own. You can join us the night before the event (December 11th) at 4224 Wai'alae Ave Unit #2 from 6:30PM - 7:30pm to install the necessary software in advance. This allows us to speed up the workshop the next morning. We will make sure that one of our coaches will help you out with this task if you weren't able to attend the InstallFest the night before.

Is Computer Science week a good time to learn how to code, even if I'm a total beginner?

Even though you are new to programming, Computer Science Week is a good time to meet many interesting people in the industry and find inspiration.

Is food provided?

Yes. Thanks to our sponsors, snacks and lunch will be served during workshops.

Be a Mentor!

We would be delighted if you would like to join us as a mentor! Fill in the form here, but select the option to be a mentor.

We will contact you :)
