If you are female and you want to learn how to make websites, we have good news for you! We are holding a one-day workshop for beginners!
It will take place on March 5, 2016 in Den Haag. Our goal is to introduce women to the wonderful world of programming.
We believe that the IT industry will greatly benefit from bringing more women into the world of technology. We want to give you an opportunity to learn how to program!
Workshops are free of charge.
If you are a woman, you speak English and have a laptop - you can apply for a pass! You don’t need to know any technical stuff - the workshop is for people who are new to programming.
Django Girls will take place in the HS Building at Johanna Westerdijkplein 1, near Den Haag Hollands Spoor.
If you are arriving by train or by tram to Den Haag HS you need to cross the railway tracks and look for a tall building just on the other side with the letters "HS Building" right at the top. It's a 5min walk.
If you are arriving by car on the N44, follow Den Haag centrum RING. Follow the road straight on into the tunnel direction Binckhorst/Nw Laakhaven. Turn right at Mercuriusweg and then turn right at the second bridge (Leeghwaterplein). After 100 meters you will find the underground garage Q-PARK on your right and you can park there.
Do I need to know anything about websites or programming?
No! Workshops are for beginners. You don’t need to know anything about it. However, if you have a little bit of technical knowledge (i.e. you know what HTML or CSS are) you still can apply!
I don't live in Den Haag, can I attend?
Of course! While the workshop will take place in Den Haag, applications are open to anyone who is able to come to Den Haag on March 5. The workshop will be in English, so if you have no trouble speaking and understanding English - you should apply.
What is the format of the workshop? What if I have trouble keeping up?
You will work in a small group of 3 attendees. A coach will be assigned to each group, and your coach will work closely with you throughout the day to help with any problems that you may encounter. You will work at your own pace, assisted by your coach, so you don't need to worry about keeping up with the entire workshop.
Do I need to have something installed on my laptop?
It would be helpful to have Django installed before workshops, but we don't expect you to install anything on your own. We will make sure that one of our coaches will help you out with this task.
Am I too young/old to apply?
No! We have no upper or lower age limit for the workshop. We feel that women of any age can be highly motivated to learn and succeed in this field. All applications will be considered according to criteria similar to those described here.
Should I bring my own laptop?
Yes. We have no hardware, so we expect you to bring your computer with you. It is also important to us that you will be able to take home with you everything you’ll write and create during the workshop.
We couldn't be here without the support from amazing people and organizations who donated money, knowledge and time to help us make this a reality. If you want to contribute and support our goal, please get in touch: denhaag@djangogirls.org
