Would you like to learn about how to build websites, but don’t know where to start? Learning how to code can seem like an impossible task so we’ve decided to put on a workshop to show 28 programming-beginners how it can be done and get them excited about the world of technology.
Join us on Thursday 17th and Friday 18th September 2015 for a free two-day workshop in Coventry, where we’ll be giving attendees the chance to learn about programming and to ultimately build their own website. The workshop takes place at the start of a big IT conference PyCon UK, which gathers a lot of talented programmers from all over the world.
Django Girls Coventry is a crash course that is aimed at total beginners. You don’t need to know anything about programming, we just expect you to bring your own laptop, to be able to commit to the all-day workshop on Friday 18th September and to have a sufficient understanding of English so you’re able to follow our English tutorial. As a participant you will get a ticket for the PyCon UK for free and are invited to attend the conference for the rest of the weekend too.
During the workshop you will work through the tutorial in a small groups of three attendees and one coach so you’ll be able to do it at your own pace.
The workshop is free of charge and if you can’t afford coming to Coventry, but you are very motivated to learn and then share your knowledge with others, we have some funds to help you out with your travel costs and accommodation. Applications have closed now!
We are trans-inclusive and welcome applications from all women. We encourage diversity so please make sure to complete our diversity and monitoring form as part of the application process.
Some PyCon UK organisers will be heading to have dinner locally after they finish setting up for Friday, Django Girls are welcome to join them - other dinner options are also available!
You can see more details about the venue here.
Do I need to know anything about websites or programming?
No! Workshops are for beginners. You don’t need to know anything about it. However, if you have a little bit of technical knowledge (i.e. you know what HTML or CSS are) you still can apply!
I do not live in Coventry, can I attend?
Of course! If you can get yourself to Coventry, you should apply. If you need financial aid to get to Coventry or you need assistance with arranging travel or hotel in Coventry - let us know. We are willing to help you!
Should I bring my own laptop?
Yes. We have no hardware, so we expect you to bring your computer with you. It is also important for us that you take home everything you write and create during workshops.
Do I need to have something installed on my laptop?
We will install everything together at the installation party on the Thursday evening before the workshop. In case you cannot make it to the installation party, we will make sure to assist you with the installation of Python and Django on the week prior to the workshop.
Is PyCon UK conference good for a total beginner?
As a workshop attendee you will get a free ticket to PyCon UK 2015 -conference for Python programmers. Even though you are new to programming, a conference is a good place to meet many interesting people in the industry and find inspiration.
Is food provided?
