Django Girls is coming to Chicago Saturday December 3rd and we want to teach you!
In this free, one-day programming workshop for women you will write your first Django web application. You'll use not only Python but HTML and CSS too!
We believe that empowering women to learn to code is vital to the development of STEM related fields. In 2009 only 24% of scientists and engineers in United States were women. Stats like this reflect the need for creating educational opportunities for women. Django Girls is here to help answer that call.
Applications are open for the workshop, apply here!
The week before the workshop you will be paired with a remote mentor to help you install all the tools you need for the workshop.
9:30 - Breakfast & coffee ** Note: Food will arrive around 9:00am. We officially start at 9:30am.
9:30 - Workshop kick off
1:00 - Lunch on us
2:30 - Back to coding
6:00 - Wrap up
Do I need to know anything about web applications or programming?
No! Workshops are for beginners. You don’t need to know anything about it. If you do, however, have some technical knowledge (i.e. you know what HTML or CSS are) you can still apply!
I am not living in Chicago, can I attend?
Of course!
Should I bring my own laptop?
Yes. We have no hardware, so we expect you to bring your computer with you. It is also important for us that you take home everything you create during the workshop.
Do I need to have something installed on my laptop?
For all applicants that need help with installation, we will pair you with a remote mentor to help you! You can specify this on the application form.
I am not a woman, can I still apply?
As a workshop for women that Python programmers we will prioritize all women in the application process. If we have availability we will consider accepting men to the workshop.
Is food provided?
Yes. Thanks to our sponsors, snacks and lunch will be provided.
We couldn't be here without the support from amazing people and organizations who donated money, knowledge, time, and even food to help us make this a reality. If you want to contribute and support our goal, please get in touch: chicago@pyladies.com
