This event is specifically targeted at helping improve gender diversity in tech. So while a lot of the language focuses on women, we welcome applications from anyone with a marginalised experience of gender. This includes all people who identify as women and non-binary
It will take place on Monday 21st of August, 2023 at Adelaide Convention Centre in Adelaide.
We believe the IT industry will greatly benefit from increasing diversity in technology. We want to give you an opportunity to learn how to program and become one of us – programmers!
Workshops are free of charge. Don't wait too long: you can apply for the workshop only until July 28th! You will be notified if your application is successful on August 4th.
If you have an interest in learning something new, and want to join a growing diverse community you can apply for our event! You don't need to know any technical stuff – our workshop is for people who are new to programming. If you do not have access to a laptop for the workshop, we may be able to help. Please get in contact via adelaide@djangogirls.org to let us know if this is your situation.
As a workshop attendee you will:
We have space only for a limited amount of people, so make sure to fill out the form very carefully!
Do I need to know anything about websites or programming?
No! Workshops are for beginners. You don’t need to know anything about it. However, if you have a little bit of technical knowledge (i.e. you know what HTML or CSS are) you still can apply!
I am not living in Adelaide, can I attend?
Of course! If you can make it to the venue on the day, we encourage you to apply!
Should I bring my own laptop?
Yes, we expect you to bring your computer with you. It is also important for us that you will take home everything you’ll write and create during workshops. However, if you do not have access to a laptop please get in contact with us at adelaide@djangogirls.org to see if we can help!
Do I need to have something installed on my laptop?
It would be helpful to have Django installed before workshops, but wouldn't expect you to install anything on your own. We will have an install party via a video call before the workshop, where one of our coaches will help you out with this task. Details of this will be released upon application acceptance.
Is PyCon AU conference good for a total beginner?
As a workshop attendee you will receive an access pass to the conference grounds, however this will not allow you access to PyCon AU - a conference for Python programmers. PyCon AU conference is a good place to meet many interesting people in the industry and find inspiration, and we encourage you to buy a ticket to the conference which starts on Friday, 18th of August.
Is food provided?
Yes, snacks and lunch will be served during the workshop.
We couldn't be here without the support from amazing people and organizations who donated money, knowledge and time to help us make this a reality.
